In a bowl mix together:

  • Diced tomatoes

  • Tomato paste

  • Brown sugar

  • Worcestershire

  • Vinegar

  • Salt & pepper

Taste and adjust sweetness/acid as desired.


5. Cook Low & Slow

Option A: Oven (Best Flavor)

  • Pour sauce over rolls.

  • Cover tightly with foil or lid.

  • Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1.5–2 hours.

Option B: Stovetop

  • Cover and simmer on low for 1.5 hours.

Option C: Slow Cooker

  • Layer rolls, pour sauce over.

  • Cook Low 6–7 hours or High 3–4 hours.

  • Sweeter old-school sauce: add more brown sugar.

  • More tang: add extra vinegar or a squeeze of lemon.

  • Polish-style: mix beef/pork/veal and add marjoram.

  • Rice swap: use barley or cauliflower rice for low-carb.

  • Extra tender rolls: place leftover cabbage pieces at the bottom of the pot as a “bed.”
