Homemade Maple Donut Bars

Instructions

1. Make the Dough

  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.

  2. Add sugar, butter, egg, and salt. Mix until combined.

  3. Add flour gradually and mix/knead until dough is soft, smooth, and slightly tacky (5–8 min).

  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1–1½ hours until doubled.

2. Shape the Donut Bars

  1. Turn dough onto a floured surface.

  2. Roll into a rectangle about ½ inch thick.

  3. Cut into bar shapes (typical size ~1×4 inches).

  4. Place on lightly floured parchment, cover, and let rise 30 minutes.

3. Fry

  1. Heat oil to 350°F (use thermometer for consistency).

  2. Fry each bar 45–60 seconds per side, until golden.

  3. Drain on paper towels and cool slightly.

4. Make the Maple Glaze

  1. Whisk powdered sugar, maple syrup, butter, vanilla, salt, and milk.

  2. Adjust thickness by adding milk (thinner) or powdered sugar (thicker).

5. Glaze the Donut Bars

  1. Dip warm donuts into glaze or pour glaze over top.

  2. Let set 5–10 minutes — or eat immediately!

Tips for the Best Donut Bars

  • Don’t over-flour the dough — soft dough makes softer donuts.

  • Let them rise fully for that fluffy bakery texture.

  • Fry in small batches so oil temperature stays consistent.

  • For extra flavor: add browned butter to the glaze!
