Instructions
1. Make the Dough
-
In a bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
-
Add sugar, butter, egg, and salt. Mix until combined.
-
Add flour gradually and mix/knead until dough is soft, smooth, and slightly tacky (5–8 min).
-
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1–1½ hours until doubled.
2. Shape the Donut Bars
-
Turn dough onto a floured surface.
-
Roll into a rectangle about ½ inch thick.
-
Cut into bar shapes (typical size ~1×4 inches).
-
Place on lightly floured parchment, cover, and let rise 30 minutes.
3. Fry
-
Heat oil to 350°F (use thermometer for consistency).
-
Fry each bar 45–60 seconds per side, until golden.
-
Drain on paper towels and cool slightly.
4. Make the Maple Glaze
-
Whisk powdered sugar, maple syrup, butter, vanilla, salt, and milk.
-
Adjust thickness by adding milk (thinner) or powdered sugar (thicker).
5. Glaze the Donut Bars
-
Dip warm donuts into glaze or pour glaze over top.
-
Let set 5–10 minutes — or eat immediately!
Tips for the Best Donut Bars
-
Don’t over-flour the dough — soft dough makes softer donuts.
-
Let them rise fully for that fluffy bakery texture.
-
Fry in small batches so oil temperature stays consistent.
-
For extra flavor: add browned butter to the glaze!
