How to Make Southern Dumplings
Ingredients
For the dumplings

2 cups all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons butter or shortening

¾ cup milk (add a little more if needed)
For the broth

6 cups chicken broth (or water + bouillon)

Optional: cooked chicken, black pepper
Instructions
1. Make the dumpling dough

In a bowl, mix flour and salt.

Cut in butter or shortening until crumbly.

Stir in milk a little at a time until a soft dough forms.

Knead gently for about 1 minute (don’t overwork).
