Toppings/finishing:
Crumbled OREO cookies (remaining ones, chopped or crushed)
(Optional) Halloween sprinkles, candy eyeballs, additional orange bits if you like extra decoration.
(Optional) A pinch of sea salt for contrast
Equipment and prep:
9×9-inch baking pan (or similar) lined with parchment paper with overhang for easy removal Kitchen Fun With My 3 Sons
Mixing bowls, spatula, offset spatula for spreading frosting
Sharp knife for cutting brownies into neat squares
Chilled rack for cooling
Refrigerator access (for setting frosting layer)
Step-by-Step Method
1. Pre-heat oven and prepare pan
Pre-heat your oven to 350 °F (175 °C) (or as directed by the brownie mix). One blog: “Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 °C) and line a 9×9 inch square pan with parchment paper.” My Homemade Recipe+1
Line your baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang so you can lift the brownies out easily after baking. Lightly grease the pan/corners if needed.
2. Make the brownie batter
In a mixing bowl: combine the brownie mix (or homemade batter) with eggs, oil and milk (or whatever the instructions specify). Mix until smooth and no dry pockets remain. One blog: “In the mixing bowl… place the Brownie mix, eggs, oil and milk, and blend on medium … until completely smooth.” Kitchen Fun With My 3 Sons+1
Avoid over-mixing (if using homemade) to keep them fudgy rather than cake-like.
3. Pour batter and layer OREOs
Pour the brownie batter into the prepared 9×9 pan and spread evenly. Then arrange the OREO cookies on top of the batter. Some versions have you press each cookie partway into the batter so they peek out but are not fully submerged. My Homemade Recipe+1
For instance: one blog instructs: “Arrange Oreo cookies across the top gently pressing each cookie partway into the batter so they peek out but are not fully submerged.” My Homemade Recipe
This means every bite gets the cookie layer.
